To begin with…

I invite you to read my brief notes on management and leadership. I will publish them periodically, though not necessarily at regular intervals. I want to share with you my experience gained over more than 25 years, working for smaller and larger companies (including multinational corporations). I hope you will find my notes helpful in your daily management practice.

To begin with, I have a few notes on what is most important. What is the base and the starting point for everything. Well, contrary to appearances, it is not planning, building an organization, team or incentive systems. These are all very important elements but they are not the beginning. The beginning is your passion, your hunger for success, your pursuit of excellence, your creativity and your VISION. If you do not have all this, do not waste your time and turn to something else. If you do have this, you can embark on your adventure and focus on all the important elements I have mentioned above. But remember one thing. Success is not achieved by following long-standing or established blueprints or rules, but by countering them. It takes creativity, a fresh mind in your daily pursuits, and consistency to be successful. This stems from passion. Many companies have been in trouble because they locked themselves up internally and killed creativity through rigid blueprints and rules.

Pick a team of people who are success-hungry and instil in them a passion similar to yours. And remember there are no off-the-shelf blueprints or models to be applied in your particular situation and specific conditions. You must find your own way. In management, theory always follows practice, not the other way round. In management, it is you who is a professor – a practitioner who has fulfilled their visions walking their own path. Get rid of anxiety and consistently put your plans into reality, pursuing them to the end. Is there a risk of failure? Yes, it is always there. But without taking risks you will not achieve anything meaningful.

In my forthcoming notes I will deal with more detailed elements of leadership and management.
